In science we learned more about sugar. We learned its different names and what are the temperatures of sugar. These temperatures include Thread, Soft ball, Firm ball, Hard ball, Soft Crack, Hard Crack, and Caramel. We started to think about what we can make using sugar. I tossed around a few ideas Rock candy got thrown out the window when I realized you have to grow it. Then I remembered a episode of Man Vs Food (Awesome show I recommend it). In the episode the man in man vs food went to this place is D.C or some east coast restaurant where they made this Green Apple syrup where I got inspired to make something similar. So I decided to make some of my own. Max soon later realized that Rock candy is a something you grow and decided to tag along in my group of one. After becoming a two man wolf pack we thought about what would go good with the syrup to make the flavor. We decided on some kool-aid flavors. The cooking process was surprisingly not complicated at all. My basic instructions to you readers are: Three cups of water then three cups of sugar. Sugar will then dissolve and then turn up the heat until it boils and then remove it. When its down to about room temp add Taste kool-aid or whatever you decide to try then put in fridge for a while until cold. Mix with seltzer water until you can at least taste the syrup then enjoy. In the 8th grade we studied how to be lawyers. He each picked what we were more interested in either the Defense or the Prosecution. We had a few teaching sessions from John Fraher. I got a lot of knowledge from it including it could be a future career. The case was basically about there was a man who dated a lot of people. He was dating a girl broke up with her but she still wanted him. Then she had the opportunity to kill her ex boyfriends current girlfriend.
Mock trials I enjoyed could of been one of my favorites the whole year. It wasn’t about the end result whether you win or lost even though beating Tobin would have been nice. I did feel I did the best I could but missing a day did affect the outcome. I enjoyed the no script your on your own feel that sorta you have to get something done feel. I missed the most important thing I think which brought my case to a end was the jury can’t vote guilty because it was more then like 75% her fingerprint. Mr. Closing pitcher Tobin Groth threw that disaster and ended the game. I honestly wish the jury was older I know I’m just using excuses, but I was irritated then all they said was both did a good job but thats all I heard no useful stuff I got out of them. I think it was mostly the wording of Tobin saying ” You cannot vote her guilty” and them being 5th + 6th graders listened to that most.
The first learning sessions with John I enjoyed a lot I got a lot out of it instead of just doing nothing during it. John in a way got me more interested in law because if there is a way to be loud at something to do a good job? Thats me right there loud and obnoxious wins things. I mean I can understand how stressful it is but you look at what a lawyers making usually its pretty insane amounts per hour for defense attorneys.
I enjoyed great artists this year I had a good time working on something I enjoyed. I didn’t enjoy last year I just didn’t really get the art we were doing that was mostly my fault but either way I was not a fan. This year I really liked our solo idea. I should have done a bit more I understand I heard that from people. I understand completely in my defense it was very difficult making paintings with not a lot of paint to work with it. I did not have pink I ran out of black towards the end which is very important in order to do space. I didn’t have Green, Light Blue, Purple, White, and a few others I was missing. I was actually proud of my art this year while watching the reactions of people in the room go “Wow” or “Thats Amazing” I was pleased. I even was surprised how good some of them turned out especially the one with the silver sprays in the middle. I could of made more but I was happy with the turnout. I was mad because I would have loved to had either my own corner or my own room to make my own display. What I envisioned was like maybe taking the project room and putting all my paintings in there but with added lights lasers and fog etc. But the more outer space feel to blend with what I was doing. All in all I enjoyed it I am also going to miss this event from my years here at TCS.
Reflections
The 8th Grade is having debates on different controversial topics including: Capital Punishment, Borders, Libya, What age are you an adult, Drugs, And many others that I cant remember of the top of my head.
The first one we had was about Capital punishment (Death Penalty) I enjoyed seeing what everyone else had to say on the topic I voiced my opinions on the topic. I was personally for it because if you murder someone and your psychopathic nothing will help you and you will most likely kill again you deserve death before anyone else suffers. Yes I did just state my opinion but I think its right so I say it again. I was also very interested in what Anthony said about the topic of the times square murder on the the huge screens. As cruel as it was I think he had a point for his side. I enjoyed this one I wish I had more to say.
The Libya one I was somewhat interested in mostly because of the risk in Israel. Being a country not friendly with the jews worries me because U.S are allies with Israel. I didn’t really speak to much because I just didn’t in such depth I knew the basics of it but other then that I didn’t really know all that much. I did know about Mummar Ghadafi and his obsessiveness to be an obnoxiously cruel fat weird hat wearing idiot. I just knew a lot of the stuff he has done to his people and I enjoyed watching the Anderson Cooper report on him and the stuff he has done to some of the women in his country. The main debate was what we should do as far as intervening in Libya. I agreed because a man cannot keep doing this to his country and not hung for it.
I like the debates I enjoy them a lot. Personally I like hearing what Charlie has to say on the topic. Charlie, being so far left I find amusing to watch him go into debate with anyone. I enjoy debates mostly because I like sitting back and watching and hearing other peoples opinions. What I don’t like is just because you don’t say anything doesn’t mean your not learning anything. As soon as I watch for more then three minutes I’m instantly targeted to say something by Rob and I find it annoying I ever say something It is instantly thrown back at me (Some of my more stupid comments I agree should be) But not all deserve a “thats stupid” or the more common “David doesn’t know anything on the topic”. To be honest I am over I mean I enjoy them but considering spectating apparently makes everything worse you are forced to say something kinda ruins the fun. Also if you do have something to say and someone doesn’t like it and either comes back with a typical David is stupid response or just ignores what you say in general. Isn’t that the whole point of debates there is no winner just the opportunity to voice your opinion? I don’t feel that I only feel more frustrated.
So for this project I studied the big three american car companies. I studied there first car and there more recent downfall in two thousand nine and recovery today. I also studied Chevy in the 50’s because of its huge uprising. This was one of the first projects I did by myself. I honestly could of had a better turn out because I crammed and found out it was due a week after I thought it was. Although people said it was redundancy of what my learning journeys consisted of.
They are right about it I have taken advantage of what I know a bit to much. I did how ever learn more then I expected all the things to be just stuff I already knew but I was wrong most of the stuff I didn’t know. The presentation I had problems getting questions actually having directly to do with my project. Overall I thought my presentation wasn’t so bad just the issue of people not understanding what I was saying.
I liked this learning journey it was a good chance for me to do stuff on my own. Next time I plan to do something different from my normal learning journey topic.
Dear Rob,
You have been replaced (For one day)
